How to Maintain Your Window Tint for Long-Lasting Results

Caring for Your New Window Tint
Proper maintenance is key to extending the life of your window tint. Whether you've just had your car, home, or office tinted, follow these simple guidelines from the experts at Coastline Tints to keep your film looking flawless.
1. The Crucial Curing Process: Wait Before Rolling Down
After installation, you must wait at least 3 to 5 days before rolling down your car windows. This curing period allows the film's adhesive to dry and adhere properly to the glass. Rolling them down too soon can cause the tint to peel, bubble, or scratch.
2. Use the Right Cleaning Products
Never use ammonia-based cleaners (like standard Windex) on tinted windows. Ammonia will break down the tint's adhesive and cause the film to bubble and fade over time. Instead, use a dedicated tint-safe glass cleaner or a simple mixture of mild baby soap and warm water.
3. Always Use Soft Microfiber Cloths
Always use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to wipe down your tinted windows. Avoid paper towels, newspaper, or abrasive sponges, as these can leave micro-scratches on the surface of the film, dulling its appearance over time.
4. Be Mindful of Physical Damage
Be careful when taking off your seatbelt. If the metal buckle snaps back and hits the window, it can chip or scratch the tint. Similarly, be cautious when loading sharp objects or large cargo into your vehicle.
5. What About Bubbles Right After Installation?
It's completely normal to see slight haziness or small water pockets immediately after installation. This is part of the normal curing process and will evaporate on its own within a few days to a few weeks, depending on the weather and sun exposure.
